ONCOLOGY & HAEMATOLOGY

The Center for Oncology & Haematology is based at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen, Department of Oncology, Phase I Unit, and the Center is coordinated by Chief Physician Morten Mau-Sørensen. The Center also comprises the Unit for Experimental Cancer treatment at Herlev Hospital, the Department of Oncology and Haematology at Odense University Hospital, the Department of Oncology and Haematology at Aarhus University Hospitalthe Department of Oncology and Haematology at Aalborg University Hospital and the Department of Oncology at Vejle Sygehus.

The six oncology and haematology departments in NEXT cover the entire Danish population and all kinds of oncological and haematological diseases. The well-organized national collaboration in NEXT will lead to more patients being offered experimental treatment for cancer diseases.

The NEXT Center’s doctors, nurses, bioanalysts and pharmacists are all educated within clinical research and assure the highest possible quality in the execution of clinical trials.

In Center for Oncology & Haematology, genome analyses are run on all patients referred to early phase research projects in NEXT. These data are compared with biologic and clinical data, which assures a custom-made cancer treatment.

A very special service is offered the industry in Center for Oncology & Haematology. It is possible to have a dialogue early in the feasibility process about special aspects of the patient recruitment based on the unique and long-standing work with genome analyses at Rigshospitalet. This collaboration is now available in all departments of the Center. The industry can get an evaluation of the patient basis for a subpopulation with special disease characteristics through DNA and RNA sequencing, e.g. an indication of the frequency of special gene expressions.
